Are you a former member of School? Even for a week or a night? Or do you know someone who is in School, or was? This post will be a forum for your comments.
Your book was fascinating and very well written. I felt like I was living it, not just reading it. One question I have is about self-remembering, basically the whole point of the Fourth Way, as I understand it. After that vague description given by one of the teachers, was it ever explored any more? Did you ever experience higher consciousness through self-remembering? As you say it’s foundational. I’m wondering if any of the teachers ever actually laid out a foundation for the students to build on?
Thanks for your kind words. Self remembering was discussed constantly. No details on how to do it were ever given. And nobody asked. No foundation. It was assumed. It was the emperors new clothes. Leaders were the sole arbiters as to whether anyone was remembering themselves. As I discuss in another post, the fourth way is a complete sham.
As you reflect back on your survival from your 23-year ordeal, to what do you ascribe Sharon Gans’ ability to lure, control, exploit and yet retain students for so long? Was it her spiritual development/consciousness, or her powers of personality, or some specific attributes you now see kept you in for so long?
Firstly, this is Spencer Schneider responding: unfortunately my browser is not recognizing me. To answer your question: Gans had no spiritual/consciousness or powers of personality. She was a con-artist. She had the ability to identify people's weaknesses and convince them she could help them.
Spencer, I was a member of school from mid-1991 through the summer of 1992. I recall many of the events you spoke of During that period , And I think I vaguely remember you in the Monday and Wednesday night class. i just purchased your book and find it fascinating ... It's really like reliving some of the things I remember from 30 years ago. The book is fascinating and I am so grateful you wrote it, as I have been searching for Information about the group for 30 years. Although it was very very difficult for me to leave after a year , I had seen what I thought was incredible manipulations going on. I believe if i didn't leave at that point I would never leave. Bless you. john c.
